It’s located above the old town of Šibenik at 115 m above the sea level. It’s star-shaped and designed by the Venetian architect Antonio Leni with the purpose of protection against the Turkish invasion. Interesting fact is that this fortress was built in only 45 days with the help of local people. After heavy losses during the battle taken on September 16th 1647 the Turkish army withdrawed from Šibenik. In September 2014 it was used during filming Game of Thrones, currenty one of the most popular TV series in the world.
